It is only by looking back at the start of lessons when I could barely stand on the board, that I really see how far we all have come! It’s been 5 weeks of challenges, learning, friendship, and snow, and man have they been fun!

You’ve heard enough from me over the past month, so this week, I instead am turning to Mitchell and Wamaitha to hear from them what their experience has been like. Let’s dive in!

It was a brisk 13 below with a slight breeze as I headed out of the lodge to meet with my Snowboard crew for our second-last training session together. Everyone was huddled around, catching up on our past weeks before heading up the chair to hit the slopes together!

By week 3, meeting Mitchell, Wamaitha, and Sharon at the lesson sign was becoming the new normal. Upon meeting, we were able to chat and catch up on our weekends instead of repeating introductions and trying to remember each other’s names!

This week we skipped right over the carpet and went straight up the chair!

As I once again grabbed my rental snowboard and headed out of the lodge at Snow Valley, it dawned on me that it had been 2 weeks since I last stepped on a board and that I had not even practiced once since the last lesson. Fingers crossed this was going to go well!

I grabbed my rental board and headed out to the lesson flag unsure about what to expect for my first snowboard lesson at Snow Valley Ski Club. I haven’t stepped on a snowboard in years! Where was I supposed to go? Who was my instructor? How many times was I going to fall?

First chair

We are excited to announce that Snow Valley Ski Club is officially open for the 2019-20 season! A crew of 4 eager snowboarders, including Easy Rider’s Warren Currie were at the hill before 9 am to make sure they were the first at the top of the quad chair on opening day!
